Doors Open Waterloo Region 2024

Sat. Sep. 21, 2024

This annual program, operated in partnership with the Region of Waterloo and Doors Open Ontario, gives the public free access to explore heritage properties including buildings, natural spaces, infrastructure and cultural landscapes that are not generally able to be accessed. This year, in a first for Waterloo Coin Society, we will be participating! We will be located on the first floor of the Perimeter Institute for Theorhetical Physics at 31 Caroline St. N. in Waterloo. Visit us from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is limited free parking available on-site with lots of additional free parking within walking distance. The Perimeter Institute is also within close walking distance of Waterloo Public Square and Willis Way ION stations.

Learn about Waterloo Coin Society and Coin Collecting

Club members will be available to talk with guests about Waterloo Coin Society, who we are and what we do. Club members will also be happy to talk about all aspects of numismatics including coin and banknote collecting.

Coin and Banknote Displays

A variety of coin and banknote displays will be set up for guests to look at. These non-competitive displays are put together by club members to show off things that they collect or are of general interest. A display of club medals and banknotes will also be available. Select your favourite display and nominate it for the Peoples' Choice Award, a prize given to the club member who put together the most popular display.

Slideshow of Coins, Banknotes and Medals

Take a few minutes to watch the looping slideshow of Canadian and foreign coins and banknotes as well as medals issued by Waterloo Coin Society. Some of these items can be found in your change and others are exceedingly rare.

COMMEMORATIVE COIN EXCHANGE

Starting at 10:00 a.m., we will be holding a coin exchange where you can swap $5 for a set of brand new commemorative coins from the Royal Canadian Mint. Included in your bag will be
