Club History and Activities

In addition to conducting our fun, friendly and educational monthly membership meetings, the Waterloo Coin Society (W.C.S.) is quite active in the numismatic community having hosted eight major coin conventions over its first 60 years.

Although the glory days of numismatics (1950's and 60's) are long gone, the club continues to hold promotional events at local area shopping malls offering free advice and answering many of the common questions collectors and non-collectors have. We are a passionate and friendly group who really enjoy the rich history behind coinage and banknotes, medals and tokens.

In recent years we have enhanced our meeting experience by embracing technology, conducting two 100-lot auctions annually and expanding our online presence. Like many clubs that have made it through the first decade of the 21st century, we have updated our Constitution and Bylaws and offer our newsletter exclusively in digital format to new members. Our specialty themed meetings such the August Peaches n' Cream Ice Cream social and December Christmas celebration are always well received and attended.

Continuing on the 22 year tradition and legacy of the Cambridge Coin Club, we began hosting the Cambridge Coin Show in 2014. Support of this popular spring event and those mentioned above will help to grow our membership, promote and introduce new collectors to the hobby and serve residents of all ages across Waterloo region.

Upcoming and Recent Events

W.C.S. Day at Woodside - Sat. Oct 19, 2024

Woodside National Historic Site is the childhood home of William Lyon Mackenzie King, Canada's tenth and longest-serving Prime Minister. The home has been previously featured on Waterloo Coin Society's 1967 banquet medals, and we had a Parks Canada representative talk about the property at one of our meetings in March, 2024. It is a local treasure that often gets overlooked, even by area residents!

Come to Woodside on Saturday, October 19 and enjoy FREE ADMISSION courtesy of Waterloo Coin Society. Just mention the club when you arrive. Enjoy a self-guided tour of the home or explore the grounds including gardens and trails. This is also Oktoberfest season, so there will be food and beverage vendors on-site as well as field games for all visitors. This is a family friendly event. All W.C.S. members, family and friends get in for FREE just by mentioning the club.

Waterloo Coin Society will have a small display set up with our banners where volunteers will be promoting the club, signing up members, showing off historic medals and offering recent collectibles for sale.
